The sound of music.

I was told today by a rather splendid girl that my tastes in music are — I quote — “unrefined.” Though I don’t define myself by my music (and musical) collection as she does, the conversation was rather interesting. I gave her the 50 Cent tour (I didn’t plan this, I promise), and she described it as: “You have like… a bunch of random shit.” And it’s true, mostly. There’s actually a theme, but I’ll let her figure that out. In the meantime, I felt the conversation applied very closely to this blog.

I treat music as something to be consumed that you eventually finish consuming. Yes, it’s great to listen to Total Eclipse of the Heart every once and awhile — and sing along — but in my timespan — my experience — that was so nine years ago (or so, give or take). There’s a dear place in my heart for it, but newer music has sprung up to fuel my never-ending consumption machine.

This leaves me with, what I’ll call, flashbacks. Ideas, timeframes, words or phrases of a given lyric, that pop a song back into my head on a daily basis. There’s a music reference for everything, and often, a certain lyric might better describe a feeling, at least at first. If you didn’t notice, I used a very popular one in my previous post.

So you should expect to see more. In fact, I plan to have at least one in each post, just to keep things fun for me. It won’t be hard, because my brain’s like like a main course of Tourette’s with an appetizer of Twisted Sister. (I kid, I kid.)

But this is only the beginning. This is where I plan to document my next two years. It’s going to be awesome. More later.
